Vehicle Paint Correction for All Makes, Models, and Age Vehicles

Vehicle Paintwork with Defects is Our Bread and Butter

We know that there is nothing quite like the feeling of driving a freshly detailed vehicle that is sparkling in the New Hampshire sun. Yet, over time, that sparkle will dull and your vehicle's paint will showcase the wear and tear of the road. Because paintwork can inevitably suffer from various blemishes like surface swirl marks, oxidation, and minor scratches inflicted by hazards, something must eventually be done to amplify paint shine and quality appearances. This is where paint correction at Protective Film Specialists can most definitely help! Our meticulous paint correction process removes common light to medium surface imperfections, restoring the original shine and luster, and taking your vehicle’s appearance to the next level.

Breaking Down the Steps in the Protective Film Specialists Paint Correction Process

Step 1: Vehicle Assessment and Preparation

Much like adding paint protection or ceramic coatings to your vehicle, the process of paint correction must start with a thorough evaluation of the vehicle's paint condition. But first, we must clear all contaminants away with hand washing and claying. All of this is crucial for determining the level of correction needed and to identify specific problem areas such as swirl marks, oxidation, scrapes, or other surface imperfections. Once the detailing and assessment is complete, you will have a final quote and time estimate for completion.

Step 2: Cutting with Compounds and Abrasive Pads

Once your vehicle is clean and completely dry, the next step is compounding, which involves using a rotary or dual-action polisher, cutting compounds, and a specific grade of cutting pad. The cutting pad we implement here at Protective Film Specialists is loaded with a cutting compound and used in working the compound into the paint to remove a small portion of the outermost layer of your clear coat, which contains the imperfections. This process must be done EXTREMELY carefully to avoid cutting too deeply into the clear coat or removing any paint from the panel below! Paint correction does NOT actually translate to paint REMOVAL whatsoever, and it requires professional skill and a trained eye for optimal results.

Step 3: Buffing and Polishing

Buffing and polishing vehicle paint is an extremely important stage to paint correction as well. We refine the paint surface further and help remove any cutting residue from the first stage of the actual correction process. These processes involve using a lighter abrasive polish and often a softer pad on a dual-action or rotary polisher, where the polish smooths the freshly corrected surface and removes any remaining minor imperfections. All of this will bring out the paint’s natural gloss and also prepares the paint for paint enhancements via a ceramic coating or protection with a PPF.

Step 4: Consider Paint Protection Next

The final step is optional, but HIGHLY encouraged. In our paint correction process at Protective Film Specialists, we want to protect the newly corrected finish of your vehicle! This usually involves applying a self-healing paint protection film to your painted panels, or if you are looking for further gloss enhancements and self-cleaning hydrophobicity, choosing a ceramic coating. The choice depends on various factors, including your personal preference, the vehicle's driving lifestyle, and the climate in which the vehicle operates. This layer of enhancement or protection helps preserve the paint’s new look and offers a shield against future contamination or minor defects and discrepancies.

What Are Some Common Questions Asked About Paint Correction?

  • How long does a traditional paint correction service last?

The longevity of a paint correction treatment from Protective Film Specialists is not uniform across all cases whatsoever. It is generally influenced by a variety of external elements, notably the ongoing care and maintenance of the vehicle to follow. If properly looked after—through consistent hand washing here at our Merrimack detailing shop and the likes of a paint protection film—A high-quality vehicle paint correction result can maintain its efficacy multiple years. Essentially, the lifespan of the corrective work correlates directly with how well you maintain your vehicle post-treatment. We encourage all customers of vehicle paint correction to consider a PPF and booking regular detailing with us going forward.

  • Is paint correction safe for my vehicle's paint?

When done by the skilled paint correction professionals at Protective Film Specialists, our paint correction process is completely safe for your vehicle's paintwork! Please be advised that this process DOES in fact involve removing a thin layer of the vehicle's clear coat surface, as this is what is actually affected by defects and surface discrepancies. Trusting a PROFESSIONAL paint correction team is of the utmost importance, as an inexperienced paint correction novice could unknowingly remove an inconstant amount during the resurfacing stages. Protective Film Specialists is a highly trained paint correction team that will work diligently from start to finish!

  • What type of paint protection is applied after paint correction?

After paint correction, we apply an entry-level sealant that keeps contamination at bay for a few weeks. However, it is wise to consider a much more thorough level of paint protection to follow your paint correction service here at Protective Film Specialists. The more robust protection options that we have here at our Merrimack, New Hampshire shop includes the likes of self-healing paint protection film products that resist surface discrepancies, an upgrade to a ceramic coating that prevents contamination and stains, and above all else, regular maintenance to keep abrasive contaminants from impacting your newly corrected and sealed vehicle. Call the experts at Protective Film Specialists to review the options available for your ride.
